Other similar scholarship opportunities around the world.

This concept was started in Canberra in 2012 by David Poland and has proved to be very successful, both for the scholar and the local orienteers. It is hoped that offering Orienteering scholarships will spread around the world so that other countries can also benefit from the exchange of knowledge. And then, young Australians can visit your country and teach there! In the future young people from all around the world could travel to and coach for many clubs all around the world.

If we hear of any similar programs we will list links here. Please email us at scholar@orienteering.asn.au to let us know if you have a similar opportunity in your country.

2016.12.01 World Wide   WWOP, World Wide Orienteering Promotion,

WWOP arranges 5-10 orienteering travel events world-wide each year. The company then uses the profits from those adventure tours to promote the development of orienteering as a world class sport. WWOP was started in 1984 by Jörgen Mårtensson and Peo Bengtsson. It  sponsors mapping in new orienteering-countries and  sponsors  participants from poor or remote countries, so they get the chance to participate in important world-competitions. 2016.11.01 – Germany / South America   Gap year coaching – German couple visits South America

Not quite an international scholarship but read about this German couple as they travel around the  world  helping to develop orienteering in South America and elsewhere. It is great to see how the idea of sharing coaching around the world is starting to catch on.

A young German couple is combining travelling with developing orienteering in smaller orienteering nations..  Interested clubs from South America or others can get in touch with Felix and Susen on felix-spaeth@gmx.de.
