Other similar scholarship opportunities around the world.

This concept was started in Canberra in 2012 by David Poland and has proved to be very successful, both for the scholar and the local orienteers. It is hoped that offering Orienteering scholarships will spread around the world so that other countries can also benefit from the exchange of knowledge. And then, young Australians can visit your country and teach there! In the future young people from all around the world could travel to and coach for many clubs all around the world.

If we hear of any similar programs we will list links here. Please email us at to let us know if you have a similar opportunity in your country.

2017.10.3   IOF launches GOVP –   Register to help around the world

Are you up to travel and help with orienteering development in other parts of the world, but not sure where to go – where your help is needed?

Register at the Global Orienteering Volunteer Platform where orienteers throughout the world can offer their skills and expertise to developing countries or clubs in need of this expertise.  And clubs can register their need for volunteers.

In this project, everyone wins: The volunteer gets to travel to other regions/countries, to meet other people trying to set up orienteering there and to have the satisfaction of having contributed to the development of our sport. A country / club in the need of some expertise in mapping, coaching, organising an event can find a volunteer who would come over to help.

In the end, it is the development of orienteering which wins!

Are you interested? Register on this webpage

The entered information will be used for searching by clubs/federations requiring volunteers. Please note that this platform should help to facilitate matching volunteers to clubs/federations in need of orienteering expertise. However, the IOF cannot promise that all persons registered on this platform will be recruited as volunteers. That depends on the demand side.

Clubs/federations searching for volunteers can find information about registered volunteers here: There are no volunteers to be displayed yet. (The data will be updated every week.)

2016.12.01 World Wide   WWOP, World Wide Orienteering Promotion,

WWOP arranges 5-10 orienteering travel events world-wide each year. The company then uses the profits from those adventure tours to promote the development of orienteering as a world class sport. WWOP was started in 1984 by Jörgen Mårtensson and Peo Bengtsson. It  sponsors mapping in new orienteering-countries and  sponsors  participants from poor or remote countries, so they get the chance to participate in important world-competitions. For more info

2016.11.01 – Germany / South America   Gap year coaching – German couple visits South America

Not quite an international scholarship but read about this German couple as they travel around the  world  helping to develop orienteering in South America and elsewhere. It is great to see how the idea of sharing coaching around the world is starting to catch on.

A young German couple is combining travelling with developing orienteering in smaller orienteering nations..  Interested clubs from South America or others can get in touch with Felix and Susen on
